Abstract: Eukaryotic genomes are pervasively transcribed, producing thousands of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), in addition to mRNAs. In this talk, I will present and discuss our recent findings on the regulatory mechanisms and functions of lncRNAs as well as mRNAs in plants: 1) a novel function of lncRNAs produced by Pol V in gene regulation and plant defense, 2) the mechanisms of how antisense lncRNAs regulate their cognate sense genes, 3) a coding-independent function of an mRNA in gene regulation and plant development.
