Our accelerated master’s program in microbiology allows you to enroll in both graduate and undergraduate courses during your fourth year to earn dual credit toward your bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

This program is available to exceptional students who apply during their third year at the university. If accepted, you can reasonably expect to complete your Master of Science degree in just one year after receiving your bachelor’s degree, saving you tuition and other expenses.

Accelerated Master’s Degree Requirements

Applicants must meet certain academic standards, such as having a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher, providing letters of recommendation, and demonstrating adequate experience in the research laboratory of a microbiology faculty member who chooses to sponsor you.

As with other graduate programs in microbiology, you have maximum flexibility in planning your study, with no uniform core of coursework required. Your individual plan is developed and approved by your graduate advisory committee in accordance with your research interests and career goals.
